DaveBot Chat Bot Walkthrough Review
May 22, 2016 - DaveBot Chat Bot (http://m.me/DaveCurryBot) is a chatbot built by Dave Curry, the host of the podcast "Say Something Worth Stealing". The bot is built on
the Smooch Bot Example
which also happens to be used by EsterBot. It's more about his careers and some fun random facts and tidbits.
We did a through review of the bot to see how usable it was and what our thoughts on it was. Below is a sample walkthrough of our experience:
Step 1: Greetings from DaveBot
When we typed "Hi", we got this greeting from DaveBot.
Step 2: Tell Me About Dave
We tapped "Tell me about Dave" option and got more options to get more specifics on Dave Curry. We got 3 options: 1) Career, 2) Stealing, and 3) Link Pack. Note: if we typed "Career" or "Stealing", it is essentially the same as tapping
the corresponding action button options.
Step 3: Career Option
We tapped the "Career" and got a response regarding his career in technology along with more options to find out more: 1) Career Roles, 2) Virtual Reality, and 3) HoloLens.
Step 4: Career Roles Option
We tapped "Career Roles" and got description of his roles and experiences in technology.
Step 5: Stealing Option
Back in the "Tell Me About Dave" options, we tapped "Stealing" and got a response regarding URLs to the website for his podcast "Say Something Worth Stealing" as well as a direct link to the iTunes Podcast.
Step 6: Link Pack Option
Back in the "Tell Me About Dave" options, we tapped "Link Pack" and got a response about his semi-weekly link pack (newsletter). When we tapped "Required Reading", we were directed to these articles.
Step 7: Tell Me a Joke
In the initial greeting, we tapped "Tell Me a Joke" and got a robot "joke" that only techie would appreciate. There were more action options: 1) Tell me about Dave, 2) More robot jokes, and 3) Tweet Dave. "Tell me about Dave"
option was covered in step 2. "More robot jokes" directed us to a website where jokes are created by robots (kinda interesting). "Tweet Dave" is explained in the next step.
Step 8: Tweet Dave
When we tapped "Tweet Dave", we got an option to tweet Dave on Twitter.
Step 9: Random Facts
If we typed in the keyword "Random Fact" and "Random Fact 2", we got the above random facts.
Step 10: More Keywords
If we typed in "More" keywords, we got a basic instructions to using the bot.
Step 11: Dave Curry Picture
If we typed in "Pic" keywords, we got Dave Curry picture - pretty professional!
Conclusion
In conclusion, we like the personal touch of DaveBot that Dave Curry created to allow us to get to know him more on a professional level with some personal touches along the way. It's a good start, but it would be awesome
if he would incorporate recent podcasts into the options so that we could directly link to the podcast episodes based on a brief description - maybe that will happen in v0.2.
