Wall Street Journal (WSJ) Chat Bot Walkthrough Review

April 28, 2016 - Wall Street Journal (WSJ) Messenger Chat Bot (http://m.me/wsj) is the first few news service chat bots available on the Facebook Messenger Platform at launch. Wall Street Journal bot enables us to get the latest top breaking news, live stock market data, and other financial related information.

We did a through review of the bot to see how usable it was and what our thoughts on it was. Below is a sample walkthrough of our experience:


Step 1: Greetings from Wall Street Journal

After typing "Hi", we were greeted by Wall Street Journal. We can get top stories, breaking news updates, and instant markets coverage all in one convenient place.


Step 2: WSJ Bot Main Menu

The main menu of WSJ bot is 1) "Top News", 2) "Markets", and 3) "Help". We can either tap on the menu option buttons or simply type it in as a keyword entry. We liked the well organized layout of the bot and the usability of it.


Step 3: Help Command Option

We typed in "Help" to get the Help options: 1) "Latest news", 2) "Command options", and 3) "My alerts". We chose "Command options" and got a detail list of simple command that is accessible within the WSJ Chat Bot.


Step 4: Top News

We typed in "Top news" to get the latest news, and we got a Call to Action (CTA) scrollable list of top stories. When we tapped the "View full story" link, it redirected us to the Wall Street Journal to read it in details. We especially like that WSJ put the headline images into the stories to add color and interest.


Step 5: Top Markets

We typed in "Markets" to get the latest stock markets overview of the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI), NASDAQ Composite Index (NASDAQ), and S&P 500 Index (SNC). They are organized within a Call to Action (CTA) scrollable list with a graphical snapshot image of the financial charts of each. We can get more information about each by tapping on the "More info" button which redirects to the report on the Wall Street Journal website. We can also tap "Follow" to add it to our portfolio. We really liked how they allow us to create a personalization element to the bot.


Step 6: Top Markets

We typed in "Lookup Apple" to get the stock details for Apple Inc. (AAPL). We got a message back with a graphical snapshot of the financial charts for Apple with the following options: 1) "More Info", 2) "Latest News", and 3) "Follow". "More Info" returned a message pertain to the financial data of the company. "Latest News" returns a scrollable list of all the latest stories related to the company where we could read the full story on WSJ website. "Follow" adds it to our portfolio.


Step 7: Enable Alerts

We could enable alerts notification on the following category: 1) Breaking News, 2) News Digest, and 3) Daily Portfolio Update. To enable the alerts, just tap "Enable alerts" which toggles the button to "Stop alerts". The "Daily Portfolio Update" allows us to unfollow any financial stock data we decided earlier to get alerts from.

Here is a sample alert notification of "Top Stories" we subscribed to. We have the option to "View full story" on the WSJ website or "Stop alerts".

In conclusion, Wall Street Journal Chat Bot is really well design from the navigation to the personalization of our own portfolio and alerts. The addition of graphic financial chart is great for data junkies like us. It gave us the necessary financial news / information we want and to receive alert notification on within our preference. The depth in this chat bot is really well thought through. It's a great simple tool to use with the ability to expand into more if we wanted it to. We highly recommend this chat bot.
